The highlight of Gosford’s racing calendar is just around the corner, The Coast scheduled on 11 May 2024.
With an increase to the prize pool, the standalone meeting now boasts more than $2.1 million across the ten-race card, the feature race itself offering $500,000.
Three other races to run alongside The Coast in 2024 have received a welcomed boost, with the Gosford Gold Cup jumping to $300,000, the Takeover Target offering $250,000 as The Thunder Thousand increases to $200,000.
Gosford Race Club CEO, Daniel Lacey says the increases benefit both racing participants and owners.
“The Coast Race Day goes from strength to strength and brings economic benefit not just to the club but to the Central Coast region”.
The meeting in its fourth year, is hoped to attract trainers from far and wide, with Randwick’s Palmetto taking out last year’s 1600-metre race. The John Sargent trained gelding went on to run in the Group 1 Doomben Cup and The Gong at Kembla Grange in November.
Meanwhile, it was a five-year-old from Warwick Farm that has attracted attention, after the 2023 Takeover Target winner, Think About It later took out The Everest in the same year, showing the calibre of thoroughbreds that run on Gosford soil.
