Welcome to the June edition of The Entertainment Grounds monthly e-newsletter.
A WORD FROM THE CEO – DANIEL LACEY
“I would like to start my newsletter with some fantastic news. Racing NSW has granted Gosford a Saturday standalone meeting commencing on the 9th May 2020. This meet will also see us running the Cup along with other supporting races that have yet to be finalised.
The club is also increasing the prizemoney for the cup upto $200,000. On the day over $1,000,000 of prizemoney will be on offer. I cannot convey enough what a significant event in the clubs history this is.
Standalone’s are not granted lightly and for one to be allocated to Gosford is a real achievement and one that all associated with the club can be proud of. As I said there are still some other races to be re homed potentially the Takeover Target may move to this day.
We have also been granted a two day event for Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd November and we will be looking at some form of feature for the Friday. This will then give Gosford a true Spring and Autumn focus where fields are usually at their highest. The final racing calendar is still to be finalised but as it stands we should host between five or six Saturday meetings as Anzac day falls on a Saturday in 2020.
Membership renewals are in full swing, the price of membership for 2019/20 has increased slightly to $55 per year (early bird renewal). There were already some exciting new benefits added for this year but now throw in the standalone, a Gosford membership really is very valuable and given that we now have a wait list, it seems our patrons agree too.
We hosted two meets in May both of which were fully sponsored with over 300 in pre booked packages each. Both were new sponsors to the club as well and all who came enjoyed some fantastic weather and racing conditions. Local trainer Adam Duggan managed to score a win on the 25th with the very promising ‘Sir Elton’, this horse should be one to keep an eye on. Adam also managed a second and third on the same day, its always pleasing seeing a local featuring so well.
Away from racing we also hosted a multitude of events with Comicon the feature. This event attracted over 5,000 people all with an interest in comics and fantasy. It was a great event with plenty of money raised for Coast Shelter, Councillor Chris Holstein and his team need to be congratulated.
Winter still has plenty to offer with July being a busy month. Last year our Christmas in July meet was totally sold out in terms of hospitality so if you want a day out with some festivities contact our team or book online.”
